I honestly find it really hard to talk about it too, in part because there IS that kind of conflict ("they were just
children!!!")... and I feel really strongly, personally, about our civil liberties --- but also in part because so many people have been unwilling to look at the "big picture" in terms of
legal precedent and civil rights, and HUMAN rights. And I think what it comes down to is that the Man didn't have the
legal right to take these children. No matter what we might feel or think or believe, I think it's important to consider that if we (America) want to start outlawing what the sect members do --- well, we need to make sure the ramifications
legally are ones we're willing to agree with in our own families and our own lives. I sure as hell don't want the government to have the right to come in to my apartment with no warrant and take my kids away because there " might " be abuse going on somewhere in the apartment complex. Or because I'm raising them in an Evangelical Christian environment. Or because I wear a head covering. Or
whatever. You know??
