The more I read about this the more I think the state of TX is in the wrong. It seems as if someone had lots of their facts wrong and it's just horrible that some of those adult mothers are being seperated from their babies as young as 2wks. I'm going to assume that those women breastfeed their babies, or did until the state come and took them away. I don't really know what my point is other than frustraition with the system and how it deals with 'outsiders'. It's so sad to me that their lives have been disrupted like this. If the state could still provide evidence of abuse then it'd be a whole different story BUT they, in most of the cases, can't find any sort of abuse.
16 year old pregnant and claiming that a 40 year old man is the father and her husband is actually illegal in the state of TX. Yes, nursing babes should not have been removed from home. Until more evidence is released though, all we can do is wait.

The controversy lays with the fact that proper protocol wasn't followed and the children were illegally seized. It may result in them being given back.
Somebody bungled this one up big time.

It was bound to happen...the bungling of this whole thing. People on my true crime website are sitting around, singing the praises of CPS, etc. but the thing is there are two sides to every story, and people could not see past the end of their noses how this was NOT handled properly, even though I agree there is abuse going on, things needed to be done better. TX does not have a good history with cults...i.e. Waco.
It's a big mess all the way around and while these men need to be prosecuted, it's the women and children who were punished. On other blogs I'm amazed at the lack of empathy for the women and children.....they just don't understand much of anything of the situation but they certainly think they do because they listen to whatever the media says....and we all know the media is always un-biased, tells the whole truth, and is never sensational

I've been watching and trying to reserve judgement on this situation. There will be far flung implications of this that will affect many people and policies.
In some cases, I believe the women may have contributed to the confusion in the situation. There was a serious allegation of abuse in an environment that has long been suspected of abuse of children. Perhaps the state did not handle it appropriately, really, it's not often that they do. CPS was not prepared for the magnitude of the situation and it appeared that the people involved were trying to hamper the investigation.
Unfortunately, this will play out and people will get hurt in the process. Perhaps we can use this situation to stir up some positive change in this system. If you feel the system acted inappropriately, offer suggestions about HOW they could have acted differently. If you don't know or your answer is "just leave them alone", educate yourself and see if you can see something the system couldn't. There is rarely only ONE way of handling anything. Unfortunately, the professionals did not feel that they had the option of taking their time in this situation.
But ya know, the women saying that they didn't know whose baby belonged to who just wasn't going to end well. I mean, I the idea of the village and all that, but FFS, LIE if you have to!
OTOH, the women WERE brainwashed, and since we, as outsiders, do not know the specifics of the situation, it is possible that they would continue to teach their children that this way of like is just peachy.
I mean, think about a mainstream group that you dislike, and the fact that parents in that group are teaching their kids x,y, and z. It's 100% ok to teach your kid whatever you want, but when what you want to teach your kid is that God is somehow expressing his love for you by having sex with old men, I think that there probably SHOULD be an intervention!

Well one gimme is keep the nursing mothers and small kids with their moms (or whomever they identify with most closely as a mom). If they had to be taken in, keep those together at the very least. Don't have a blanket plan and expect it to work for all the kids, modify it for different ages. Have the state educate themselves on this particular branch of the FLDS, learn about Warren Jeffs and what control he has BEFORE going in, that way you're at least somewhat prepared.
They are very distrustful of outsiders and the government, so of course they are going to not give true names, etc. That's what they've been taught to do, that's what's been pounded into their heads all their lives. Did the govt think of any of this? I don't know. I wasn't there, I would like to think so. Geeez, even the book "Under the Banner of Heaven" mentioned all this and this was published years before WJ's arrest and trial. I don't claim to be an expert, know anything and everything, but just the above amazed me when the authorities were shocked that no one was cooperating. Uh, duh...what do you expect? Try looking at things from their point of view, what they've been led to believe. The men who run this group aren't idiots, backwoods yokels...these are smart, savvy, evil men who will stop at nothing for control.
No, there are always going to be mistakes and no one right way to make all happy, but the above are IMO gimmes.

Yeah, but you also are not in TX, where a family where the mom was in prison and dad left the FIVE YEAR OLD in charge with the result that a baby drowned in a tub because CPS was far too busy ensuring that someone who smoked a single joint is jumping through hoops to keep her kids. In that case, CPS should have been involved from the get-go to ensure that dad could care for the FOUR children under the age of five while Mom was incarcerated.
