Minnie Driver plans on being a “podgy and fat” new mom

Minnie Driver shone at this week’s LA premiere of Hancock, showing off her growing baby bump in a thigh-high sequined dress.
Minnie, who is due this summer, looks fabulous! But don’t expect to see her back in a bikini (a la Jennifer Lopez) any time soon. Unlike many celebrities who start to worry about losing the weight before the baby even arrives, Minnie, 38, says she is in no rush to shed those pregnancy pounds:

“I don’t know what this celebrity obsession of getting your pre-baby body back in the shortest time possible is all about. It’s the most unhealthy thing and it’s horrifying that you should somehow get back into a size two a couple of weeks after giving birth. So plan on seeing me podgy and fat, knocking around in Malibu and proud of it.”

I love that she said that. I’m sure most new moms - celebrity or not - feel some pressure to lose the baby weight, but it’s always a bit shocking to see stars looking svelte on the red carpet so quickly after having a baby.

Why do these celebrity mom's to be wear such short tight dresses and heels though? I seriously couldn't have been comfortable in those get ups when I was that far along. I just don't get it!

I like that she said it too. I mean, yes there are some women who have great metabolism or sold their souls or what not and they get back to a nice slender size very quickly and then there are those who drag it on forever and 4 years after giving birth they still say "Oh it's baby weight from my pregnancy. I'm working on it." and you know that it's not healthy for them to have all that weight on them. The point is, your body isn't going to be the same as it was before you had a baby. I never had hips before I got pregnant and now I have them, and well.. the boobs..eh.. but they shouldn't not breastfeed or kill themselves just to look good. It's not healthy for them or their baby. And I know that industry is looks oriented and they wouldn't get as much work if they were still a bit chunky a year after the baby is born, but they make so much money that they could go a year without working and still afford their lavish lifestyles or and do it safely and with some sense and help of personal chefs and stylists and trainers.

It reminds me of the other year when they interviewed Gwyneth about how she looked so thin so fast at one award show or another right after giving birth and she looked the interviewer right in the eye and told them that her "people" had stuffed her into two of the smallest girdles she had ever seen before letting her near the dress. They may have gotten "the" outfit but she had the last laugh.

Me too...I absolutely loved that movie! Although I was so disappointed to see how thin and willowy she was after she lost weight right after the movie.
