So, R and I are still up at 2:30 Friday (Sat) night, we're snuggling, watching a movie on the laptop in bed. All of a sudden, the loudest crash. We have no clue where it came from, but it sounded like a huge shelf filled with bottles tipped over. I ran into Nik's room, but he was sound asleep. I looked out my door into the hallway, but couldn't see or hear anyone (there's two more apts on my floor, the police station below). I went out onto the balcony, but couldn't hear or see anything there either...
Fast forward to yesterday afternoon. I walked up the stairs with my groceries and met one of the policemen. He asked me about the crashing sound, but I didn't know anything, neither did he. He did say that they came upstairs, after it happened, but couldn't see or hear anything either. It definitely came from inside the house though.
I went out onto my balcony to have a smoke when I got home, and heard my next door neighbors rummaging around, and I heard glass being swept. So, nosey neighbor Petra stuck her head around the divider, and saw them carrying out the glass balcony door. Completely smashed.
My neighbor said that she had left the door ajar when she went to bed.
Here, we can close windows and doors while leaving them ajar at the top, like this
So, she was in bed, sleeping, when all of a sudden she heard the crash. She ran into her living room and found that the door had fallen out of the hinges and onto her glass table
This sucks for her.... but also for ME, because both my balcony doors have something wrong with the hinges. I think a call to the landlady is in order to get them fixed ASAP.
I don't even know who's going to pay for my neighbor's door, because usually this is covered under the household insurance that most people have (either for apts, or part of the homeowner's). My neighbor doesn't have one though (seeing that I sell those, she now has one
) and I doubt that the owners insurance will pay for it... I just hope that the owners themselves will step up to it, since it wasn't her fault at all.
Anyway, there is my main excitement for the weekend
