I have a friend who calls me a gypsy because I'm a military wife. But, the part I love about moving so much is that you can relate to so many people about the different areas that we share in common.

1968-1990: Michigan
1991: Lawton, OK, for 6 months, then back to MI for 6 months while hubby was in military training.
1992-1995: Watertown, NY
1995: Columbia, SC
1996: Tacoma, WA, for 6 months
1996-1999: Williamsburg, VA
2000-2002: Lawton, OK
2002-2003: Charlottesville, VA
2003-2006: Savannah, GA
2006-2008: Sierra Vista, AZ
2008-? : Fayetteville, NC

Do you have to pay for the move? Do you have to pack up all your own shit? If so, how can you stand to move cross country?

Nope the govt moves it for you,
If you do move you get paid for it

they pack up your stuff if they move it or you can have them move some and you move some too. That is what we did when we moved here from Ak. packed up a uhaul and they packed the rest.

The military pays for your packing and transportation of household goods or you can do it yourself (DITY)

The military allots you a certain amount of money for food, hotel, gas dependent on how many family members are travelling from one duty station to the next. They WILL NOT pay for you to go ahead of time to look for a place to live, which is easier now with the internet.

Trust me, living in a hotel and eating out gets old on day 3.

The bugger is almost everyone moves during the summer so it can take as long as 3 weeks to see your household goods again. We always bring sleeping bags and sleep on the floor of our new place. We also pack basic pots and pans to cook out of.

As Twinbears, we always drive from one duty station to the next and treat it like a vacation.
