| I didn't read the link, but all I can say is assholes. I sincerely doubt if there were a God s/he would want children treated that way. Gives religion and God a bad name. Ass.

After staring at the door for many years, it finally occured to me to go look for the open window. I discovered I like sunlight and warmth much more than peeling old doors anyway, so I climbed out the window and reveled in my discovery. | its infuriating. i feel so much guilt when i am anything less than supportive and loving towards my children......this is religiously induced insanity at its finest.

|  I have been waiting for this.  The Pearls are sick. Sorry, but that`s the truth as far as I am concerned. How DARE they think that it is ok to treat another human like that??

| I actually found myself reading his writing on discipline. I really think he has legitimate points when he starts out and does make the case that many parents strike kids out of anger instead of calmly and rationally making a point and extinguishing a behavior. He is right in that we do often use inconsistent methods and teach kids to only listen when we get "that tone of voice that means business", too. He makes points taht we often wait too late to start training and make inconsistent efforts, too, but then he leaves the tracks. Unfortunately he goes off track with the physical punishment and trying to "break" a child. I think if he left off the pretty much beating kids and trying to break them he might have some good points...whenever people use religion as a shield it ends badly. I get a creepy feeling reading many parts of it. Too bad he got off on the physical part and put so many things in a way that a sick person or one with no control would see it as license to abuse and murder

| Slacker  | the man and his wife are loonies. there is nothing good about them, they hide behind the bible and teach parents to hate children and see them as evil. how on earth a book on child abuse ever got published is beyond me. and you don't train children, they are not puppies or horses, they are people. they need guidance and love... LOVE not some crazy ass training them and beating them. there are about 500 great parenting books out there that do not ever teach beatings. AND to even suggest that there is some merit in his book is just well... sick. h |
