How to make this easier for DD?

My father is leaving & moving to Michigan {we live in Texas}. It's a long story but basically he's become toxic in many ways, and he has dementia in the early stages as well. Not bad enough for us to be able to do anything about, but just enough to make him slightly out of it.

He has always been her father figure since both he and my mother live with me and have since before DD was born. She plays on his bed, he gives her rides, and everything.

He leaves tomorrow at 11am. Due to his other health issues the possibility of him dying on this bus trip is fairly good.

How can I make this easier for DD? She is still missing the dog we gave away 3 weeks ago!

There's not much you can do. Maybe take a picture of him and have her keep it in her room where she sleeps and remind her, when she asks, that he loves her, he's just to sick to be here. She'll probably ask about him for a long time. Then eventually at some point in her life she will understand. I'm sorry you have to go through that!
