not the actual pumpkin the ends of the plant to prevent it from going everywhere and producing little pumpkins. if you pinch it more energy goes to the pumpkins that are already on the plant?
I only did it to a few of my plants. I've got some fist size pumpkins and littler ones.
We've never done pumpkins or watermelons here b/c my mom did them both one summer and they took over her entire back yard. We don't have much of a yard here, so I'm afraid to take a crack at it.

A few years ago we had a Halloween party in our backyard, and the kids had a pumpkin-carving contest, and the next year we had about 4 or 5 pumpkin plants scattered around our backyard. It was awesome! We haven't actually planted any though
Our pumpkins have taken over! We planted ours under a wooden ladder and there are pumpkins on the rungs. They are just turning orange and almost ready. They are the eating kind sugar pumpkins. I'm going to cook, puree and freeze them I have a great pumpkin cookie recipe.

We didn't since last year the watermelons were a mess. That is a great idea to pinch them off though!

As the saying goes, when a door slams shut in one place a window opens somewhere else. After staring at the door for many years, it finally occured to me to go look for the open window. I discovered I like sunlight and warmth much more than peeling old doors anyway, so I climbed out the window and reveled in my discovery.
