My Cheap Thermometer Sucks

BG is 24mos. She has a stuffy nose but seems to be doing fine other than that. I'm using a saline nasal spray on her to try to help her ability to breathe which will determine how much sleep she gets.....

Anyway, she feels a bit warm. I'm not big into medicating, esp. fevers. But I'm not confident in my thermometer. I tested it under my arm and it came up 96.3 and in my mouth it was 97.3 When I took BG's temp under her arm it came back as 98.0, she can't breathe through her nose and I don't think she's old enough for it to be in her mouth anyway. So about how far off do you think my thermometer is? I don't want to drag her out in search of a decent thermometer given that at this point she's only slightly sick. Any guesses? I'm pretty confident this is a low grade fever. She is playful and mostly normal in her behavior aside from a bit of clinginess which I am loving her through.

And I'll also take suggestions for a better thermometer.

A fever is good....99% of all kids you will know if they have a high temperature.

By the way it seems to me your thermometer is right on. Under the arm you have to add a degree.

Thanks. Good to know they are necessary for survival. I like to have one cuz I tend to get high fevers and I'm not sure if BG will take after me in that regard. And I'm a bit of a geek who just "likes to know"

Thank you. I didn't know about the add the degree thing. So my cheap thermometer might not need to be replaced, no reason to add to the landfills already.

I've always let the very few fevers she's had so far run their course. I'm a mom of only one though, so I tend to sometimes be a bit more unsure because I am continuously in uncharted waters for me.

I know I was once a mom of only 1. You are doing fine. Really their body language is more of indicator of a high fever then anything else.
